Billion Years Ago:
The Last Day of Nothingness
On
the first day, chaos reigned.
Until that day, our three-dimensional universe, now
home for countless stars, was unfilled. Nothing - no stars, planets,
no space rocks - existed. What we understand as a “vacuum” doesn’t even
begin to describe this emptiness.
Instantly, a massive rupture opened, detonating
with super-nuclear force. Bits and pieces of organic and inorganic
matter exploded through the fiery breach of super-nuclear energy.
Nothing is our universe’s history can compare with the magnitude of this
blast.
Our universe was born. The
scale of that ancient blast is beyond human imagination. Its consequence
birthed countless stars, 400 billion alone within the Milky Way, where
our solar system resides. And our cosmos is inhabited by 125 billion
galaxies.
Albert Einstein was the first to understand that
“time” is an illusion. Yet we’re able to “measure” this illusion.
By mortal calculation, 15 billion years ago, our universe rubbed
against another three-dimensional universe at a site far beyond our
galaxy. 
From Earth, it seems the stars are suspended
motionless in the heavens. But that explosion of long ago was so
gargantuan that all matter entering our universe is still propelled
through space from that central point of the breach. We assume that the
torn point of the original opening has now “healed,” but no one knows with certainty.
And no one can know where
ultimately this will lead. Some cosmologists – astronomers who research the
origin and structure of the universe – believe a day will come when the
last star will burn out. At that time, our universe will no longer be
“empty” as once it was, but it will be dead. In their view, no spark of
any sort will be left.
But, if the original breach remains open and our
universe is indeed infinite, a debatable viewpoint, it may never die.
Only the oldest parts will burn out.
If all this seems fanciful, you aren’t alone.
Just remember as we go through all this, that the field of cosmology is
as much a philosophy as it is a science.
The “complete burn-out” theory is by far the oldest
theory. If they were right, the logical assumption is the day of burnout
would be the “end of time.”
On the other hand, if the most advanced theory of
physics is correct, they cannot be right. String-theory physicists now assume
the existence of at 26 dimensions, including our own. Perhaps
there exist an infinite number of
dimensions.
The concept of a parallel universe is a theory that
there is a “mirror-universe”; and when one makes a decision in this
universe, an alternate “you” in the other universe makes the opposite
decision. Many authors have written best sellers with such
parallel-universe outcomes, in which Napoleon, with wiser decisions,
defeats Wellington at Waterloo and the Confederacy achieves victory over the Union.
Not long ago, the concept of a parallel universe
was believed to have been discredited. But since the 1990s most
physicists have come to accept “string theory,” often referred to as the
“theory of everything.” If the theory is right, the existence of a
parallel universe is not only possible but probable. Somewhere in
another realm, there may be another “you.”
We don’t tell others how to interpret such matters
from a religious viewpoint. Each should make his or her own decisions in
such matters. But to us, all this fits perfectly with scriptural
writings as we understand them.
We might remind our
website visitors of a
biblical translation from Hebrew to English that might help. From
Genesis, the word concerning the first “day” was translated from the
original Hebrew word, “yom.” Most often in Hebrew, yom is
properly translated as “day.” But, it’s also used more than 60 times in
the Bible to mean, “a long, indefinite period of time.”
Had the first English writers used the more general
meaning, “a period of time,” instead of the more common “day,” we might
not have a conflict today over whether Earth is 4.6 billion
years old or 6,000 years old. (Notice that we wrote the word, “today,”
not to mean “this day” but “a time in history,” just as yom could
also have been meant in ancient Hebrew.)
In our view, and we consider the Earth to be very
old, there is no conflict either in the periods of time or in the order
of which the universe was created.
Judging from

Newsletter assume that we accept the theory of
evolution, basing their conclusions upon our comments affirming the
existence of
dinosaurs and other
extinct flora and fauna. 
Evolutionary
scientists theorize that all life began with a single cell over a long
period of time. Darwin assumed that fossils of the earliest ancestors
would be found in the oldest layers of compacted sediments from sea
bottoms.

Yet all
evidence found to date suggests that life "exploded," all at once,
during the Cambrian period 550 million years ago. During that time, 100
species of plants and animals appeared suddenly. Biochemist Michael Behe
uses the phrase "the biological big bang" to describe this
period, its duration less than five million years. Biologist Richard
Dawkins wrote, "It is as though these species were just planted there,
without any evolutionary history."
The finding
certainly suggests the possibility that life was transported from
somewhere else to be planted on this earth.

The Order of
Freemasonry, the secret society which will not allow an atheist to join
its ranks, have long proposed that the Creator has a physical process,
including geometry and physical sciences, to accomplish the creation of
the universe.
One visitor
wrote, "Evolution would be declared a fact if it weren't for
creationists rejecting science and intimidating responsible
scientists."
"Responsible
scientists" don't care what others say if they can prove their
position with mathematics and/or other solid evidence. The theory of
evolution, like any scientific theory, remains a theory
because it cannot be proven. We confidently can tell you
that paleontologists and archaeologists are proficient at finding and
analyzing fossils of bygone times. Yet, no one has ever found a
transitional fossil indicating any crossing of species to the
extent proposed by evolutionists. That statement is a
fact, not a supposition.
If we knew of
rock-hard supporting evidence, we could readily accept evolution as fact
and not the theory it is. Our position on mankind's arrival on this
planet is clear and, although admittedly incomplete, based on more
support than has been produced to date concerning the indications
of evolution.
Supporters of the creationism theory are not a homogeneous group.
Some belong to the "old earth" or "progressive" branch of
creationism, which accepts that the earth is far older than is
thought by those who accept the "6,000 years" belief. The simplest
possible explanation for that belief is a potential error in biblical
translation by early English translators. The Hebrew word used in
Genesis is "yom." "Yom" is most often translated as "day," but
the word appears more than 60 times in the Bible to mean a longer,
indefinite period of time. If that was the intended meaning, 6 "yoms"
could be a very long time. Had biblical scholars translated "yom"
as six "time units," we wouldn't be having this argument today about the
earth's age.
Atheists once
said that evidence of intelligent design is religion, not science, since
a pre-existing intelligence cannot be observed. But even they
acknowledge that scientists infer the existence of such unobservable
entities as quarks, forces, fields, even the big bang, from their
observable effects. We can properly infer the existence of a Creator
from intelligent design. And, of course, no one has seen those
invisible cosmic strings or the invisible multi-verse membrane in which
all supposed 26 dimensions and the presumed infinite numbers of universes
inhabit.
So how much of
"evolution" do we accept?
Well clearly, a species can change. When humans are
separated, their offspring may develop certain characteristics that
adapt to their new environment. Peoples whose ancestors were reared in
cool weather may develop lighter skin and, in the coldest weather,
thicker skin. Peoples isolated for thousands of years in warmer areas
may develop varying degrees of color to deflect or absorb the sun's rays
with fewer side effects. When different races cross breed, they produce
unique characteristics of each. The offspring of early Spanish explorers
and the Inca
may serve an example.
As to the "survival
of the fittest," considerable evidence exists. In a hostile
environment, the largest and strongest survive, begetting yet larger and
stronger people and animals.
However, as to
whether a gaggle of geese can grow to be a school of porpoises,
we have a problem. We would first need to see transitional fossils
demonstrating this development. More scientists are living in
today's generation than have all who ever lived before on this planet.
And yet, none has unearthed the evidence required to move that essential
proposal of evolution from the status as unproven speculation to
the pantheon of facts. Bring those bones into our office or send
non-doctored pics, and we'll change our position.
Science
and Religion: Each a Search for Truth
Compare the scientific evidence and biblical order of earthly
development yourself. Read the first few verses of Genesis and write
down the order in which the universe is born. (From Earth, the stars and
planets were hidden from view until the volcanic soot disappeared.) Then
write down the order of the scientific theory concerning the Big Bang
(from the void), and the order of what was created, beginning with the
earth, up to the time of mankind. The order is the same.
A series of
paintings the Webmaster recently viewed on the wall of a 7th Day
Adventist hospital demonstrated this more clearly than anything he had
seen before. The words from Genesis were created were written beneath
each painting of the creation of the universe and development of the
earth, including all life. None of the verses conflicted with the basics
of evolution.
The problem that believers have with evolution is not the
order of things but with the evolutionists' claim that a Creator had no
part in this, that only a series of physical events resulted in what the
earth has become. While evolutionists cannot prove their principal
theory concerning cross-species development with irrefutable evidence,
believers posses overwhelming logic to bolster their beliefs.
The writer who
wrote the remark about "responsible scientists" added, "Many other
'so-called theories' are facts as well. Quantum physics
and relativity have worked for decades in scientific works."
That isn't true.
Ask anyone working in either discipline. All scientists laboring within
either field are aware that quantum physics1and relativity are each in
conflict with the other. If one were true as originally assumed, the
other must be wrong.
In fact, both
are "wrong" in the sense of their lack of completeness. Studies
undertaken beginning in the 1980's can weave the two together with "string
theory," but this too remains a theory.
One of the best
physicists/mathematicians known in this field is a blonde, rock-climbing
certified babe (feminists, forgive us) who will admit the concept
has its problems; but even that math model is more solid than either
quantum physics and relativity. We can forgive your misunderstanding
if your basic high school or college physics class was taken before
1979. (String theory changed yet again in 2001 when scientists realized
that matter wasn't formed only by tiny invisible strings but in fact is
probably based upon strings woven together in an unseen membrane. At
that point, they realized that the multi-verse now has 26 dimensions,
not just the ten that string theorists originally proposed. Within
this multi-verse are an infinite number of parallel universes, of which
ours is only one.
And although
each of these three theories has its limitations and questions, any one
of them offers far more evidence that the theory of evolution.

Example: A Problem with Quantum
Physics1 Schrödinger's cat is a
thought experiment devised by
Erwin Schrödinger that attempts to illustrate the incompleteness of the
theory of
quantum mechanics when going from subatomic to macroscopic systems.
Said cat
is placed in a sealed box. Attached to the box is an apparatus containing a
radioactive nucleus and a canister of poison gas. When the nucleus decays,
it emits a particle that triggers the apparatus, which opens the canister
and kills the cat. According to quantum mechanics, the nucleus is described
as a mixture of "decayed nucleus" and "undecayed nucleus". However, when the
box is opened the experimenter sees only a "decayed nucleus/dead cat" or a "undecayed
nucleus/living cat." The question is when does system stop becoming a
mixture of states and become one or the other? The purpose of the experiment
is to illustrate that quantum mechanics is incomplete without some rules to
describe when the wave function collapses and the cat becomes dead or alive
instead of a mixture of both.
Contrary to popular belief, Schrödinger did not intend this thought
experiment to indicate that he believed that the dead-alive cat would
actually exist; rather he considered the quantum mechanical theory to be
incomplete and not representative of reality in this case.
In the
Copenhagen interpretation, a system stops being a mixture of states and
becomes one or the other when an observation has taken place. This
experiment illustrates that it is unclear what exactly an observation is.
One could argue the absurd position that while the box is closed, and that
the system exists in a mixed superposition of the states "decayed
nucleus/dead cat" and "undecayed nucleus/living cat" and that only when the
box is opened and an observation performed does the wave function collapse
into one of the two states. This is absurd, and intuitively one would think
that the "observation" is when a particle from the nucleus hits the
detector. However (and this is the point of the thought experiment), there
isn't any rule that says one way or the other, and quantum mechanics is
incomplete without such rules and explanations for how such rules come to
exist.
In the
Everett many-worlds interpretation, which does not single out
observation as a special process, both states persist, but
decohere. When an observer opens the box, he becomes
entangled with the cat, so observer-states corresponding to the cat
being alive and dead are formed, and each can have no interaction with the
other.
Curiously, all of this has some practical use in
quantum cryptography. It is possible to send down a fiber optic cable,
light that is in a mixture of states. If one places a wiretap in the middle
of the cable which intercepts the transmission and retransmits it, one
conducts an observation which causes the light to fall into one state or
another. By doing statistics at the other end of the cable, one can tell if
one is received light that is in a mixture of states or if the light has
been already observed and retransmitted. This allows one to develop
communication systems that cannot be tapped without being noticed at the
other end. This experiment (which one can do) also illustrates that the
"observation" in quantum mechanics has nothing to do with consciousness in
that a perfectly unconscious wiretap will cause the statistics at the end of
the wire to be different.
 Our
