COUNTDOWN TO EARTH'S FINAL DAYS

The ancient Maya believed the Earth's final day will be December 21, 2012. Native Americans, Egyptians, Chinese and others arrived at a similar conclusion, each without a knowledge of the other. The Maya claimed that this future end-time would include a solar shift, a Venus transit and mounting earthquakes.

Jesus said no man knows the day and hour. Even He didn't know. Only his Father knew.

But, can we know the year?  Although we don't think so, you should read the Mayans' and others' predictions below.  The year 2012 won't be like any before.

Although a Calvinist (Presbyterian) Dr. Robert Walker O'Neal is clearly a fundamentalist who probably has closer ties with Southern Baptists than with Presbyterians or other mainline churches. He was once a Methodist and didn't feel comfortable with the liberal direction that and other mainline churches were taking.

While Dr. Robert O'Neal has a large following among the religious right, many mainline believers feel uncomfortable around him. Dr. O'Neal's views are clearly out of sync with today's liberal beliefs.

Dr. O'Neal claims that fundamentalists are simply those who believe in the axiological bases of the scriptures. His opponents take a different view, claiming that his simplistic views can be hurtful to homosexuals, Muslims and religious minorities.

Robert O'Neal either doesn't agree or doesn't care. His views are clearly divisive in a liberal U.S. culture.

Although Dr. Robert W. O'Neal usually avoids expressing his political views in public speeches, we may assume he is solidly with the religious right. Among many others, he has publicly and financially supported the candidacy of former U.S. Rep. Bill McCollum. Mr. McCollum was the congressman who led the fight to impeach former President Bill Clinton, and liberals have never forgiven him for those efforts.

The Mayan calendar, which the Webmaster studied when in Mexico, is recognized as the world's most accurate calendar, more so than the Gregorian system (based on the Julian calendar) that we use today.

The Mayan priests who formulated it assumed that they would be the only ones who would need to use it and they devised it in an extremely complex manner. Arguably, its most interesting feature is that it is fashioned to continue year-to-year.

From astronomical observations measuring "precession of the equinoxes" and solstices, the ancient Mayan or pre-Maya indicated the date of December 21st, 2012 A.D., as the end of their Long Count calendar, the End of Time.

Modern astronomy tells us that this date ends an astronomical 26,000-year process as explained in following paragraphs. According to some controversial researchers, the ancient Egyptians came to the  conclusion the Earth's end-time would be 2025; others declare their interpretation of the Egyptian writings and numerical indicators give the world a couple of hundred additional years.

FOR AN EXPLANATION OF THIS ASTRONOMICAL PROCESS (science-known events that will occur that day), Visit our web page: "2012."

VISIT A RELATED WEB PAGE if interested in how the Mayan Calendar works.

Many of today's scientists have declared their admiration for the Mayans' research and levels of astronomical accomplishments. The end-date of the Long Count Calendar in 2012 pinpoints a rare alignment in a vast cycle of time called the precession of the equinoxes. On December 21, 2012, the galactic equator -the mid point of our galaxy - will cross the ecliptic path of the sun, creating a rare conjunction of the Winter Solstice. The Maya were excellent astronomers. In the upper right of this page is a domed structure (photo by Webmaster) that served as the Mayan observatory.

The beginning year of the Mayan calendar was August 11, 3114 B.C., although they settled the land only around 2500 B.C. at the earliest. They also accurately calculated the solar year out to four decimal places. To accomplish these impressive computations they created a sophisticated system of mathematics utilizing place value and the concept of the zero. And all this, while Europe was still wandering around in the Dark Ages. (See modern-day "Astronomers' Notes" below). Photo, above right:  Mayan Observatory. Photo taken by the Webmaster at Chechen Itza on the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico

Although separated by more than ocean, the ancient Egyptians and the Mayans share many cultural and religious similarities. Both worshiped serpents. Both constructed pyramids and other elaborate structures. The Egyptian "long-count calendar" begins about 3100 B.C. and the Mayan exactly 3114 B.C. No one today knows with certainty why that century was chosen; but that period of time isn't far off from the belief that many Jews and Christians consider the beginning of time, as described symbolically in the Book of Genesis, which, if taken literally rather than symbolically as many scholars and scientists assume it to be, would be less than 6,000 years ago.

The History Channel's serial UFO Files program 12/29/2004 presented researchers who advance a controversial theory that the Mayan legend of Kukulkan - who the Mayans believed brought their mathematical and astronomical knowledge from another realm or "the sky"- were "aliens." They claimed that China, various Native-American nations and other societies around the world have similar stories, telling similar stories of fiery conveyances bringing beings from beyond with great knowledge. The Mayans and Chinese in particular produced similarly complex mathematical and astronomical achievements, although neither knew of the existence of the other.

Is it possible that the Creator visited many societies and gave them knowledge to advance their human condition?

"No conflict exists between true religion and proven science. The Creator is the supreme practitioner of the ultimate science. He has always worked with tools and science that we cannot imagine. If a carpenter with modern tools traveled 1,000 years into the past, all that he could do would be considered miraculous.”  Robert Walker O’Neal, Ph.D., 2001, rev. 2003

The symbols of their faiths (Egyptians, a tree and Mayans, a sarcophagus lid)  had a bird at the top, serpent at the root and "goddess" in the trunk. The Egyptians included a "leopard priest" and the Mayans had a "jaguar priest" in their ceremonies. Both were obsessed with studying the stars and solstice seasons.

Many scholars suspect that Egyptian seafarers may have visited the land of the Maya and established that civilization. If the similarities above aren't enough to convince you, try this: The name of King Tutankhamen's treasurer and Overseer of the Place of Eternity (the royal necropolis) was Maya (photo engraving of Maya to the right.) The Egyptians' ships were at least as seaworthy as those of the Vikings. The Vikings could conceivably have returned to their homes after visiting North America but early explorers who sailed through the Caribbean to Mexico suffered greatly during the region's hurricane season.

The seas around Florida and the Caribbean are littered with European ships who didn't have the technology to track the paths of these great winds. Perhaps this is why no record exists of early Egyptian visits to the New World.

Modern astronomers tell us that the end-date of the Long Count Calendar in 2012 pinpoints a rare alignment in a vast cycle of time. the "precession of the equinoxes." This occurs only once every 26,000 years. The last such astronomical alignment occurred more than 20,000 years before the rise of civilization.

Islam also expects the "Final Day" and a Day of Judgment. The mala'ika  (angels) include Mikail (Michael) and Jibril (Gabriel). The evil jiin is pronounced, "Shaytan." At death, the ruh, or spirit, leaves the body and waits in barzakh (purgatory), returning to the body on Yawm al- Ba'th, the day of Rising from the grave. The next destination is  Jinnah (the Garden) - for Muslims only -  or Nar - (the Fire). They expect an "antichrist" figure, Dajjal, the great deceiver. Before the Last Day, Jesus who is seen as a prophet, will re-appear and kill the Dajjal.

Although differently from the Holy Bible, the words of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad as written in the Qur'an prophesies signs, but says only Allah knows sa' "the Hour"). Some, according to John Whalen, say, "Several Sufi sects have declared 2076 as the Year of the Haj (end day) because it will coincide with the year 1500 in the Islamic Calendar. An article by Abdal Hakim Murad, "Islam and the New Millennium," confirmed this, quoting Imam al-Suyuti, the greatest scholar of medieval Egypt. At first, al-Suyuti believed the end of the world would occur in the year 1000 of the Islamic Calendar. He later changed his prediction to 1500 of the Islamic Calendar.

The author of The Day of Wrath, Safar Ibn `Abd Al-Rahman Al-Hawali writes that he agrees with the Christian date interpretation, at What's New item 61 - Christianity/The Rapture and 2012. Speaking of Jerusalem, he says:

"When Daniel specified the period between its distress and relief, between the era of anguish and the era of blessing, he put it as forty-five years! We have already seen that he specified the time of the establishment of the abomination of desolation as the year 1967, which is what in fact occurred. Therefore, the end –or the beginning of the end- will be 1967 + 45 = 2012, or in lunar years 1387 + 45 = 1433."

We aren't Muslim and do not subscribe to any non-biblical claims here. We are reporting only what others claim.

The Chinese I Ching oracle, claimed to have discovered the 2012-termination point long before China heard anything about the Mayan Long Count. The I Ching analyzes segments of time as independent pieces. The I Ching, a diagram of six elements comprising a series of hexagrams, allows an arrangement of these hexagrams to produce a depiction of the future.

Ancient seers within various Native American nations prophesied that the year 2012 was to be the closing stage of the material world. Their rationales for choosing that year are buried in time. The Cherokee calendar, something of a cross between the Mayan and Aztec calendars, calculates the same date of December 21st, 2012 A.D., describing the "world/suns" ending in catastrophe.

More recently, the Seneca Indians' prophecy set forth in 1925 foresaw a period of purification ending in 2012. The Tribal Elders of the Hopis have taken a tribal vote and agreed that we are now living in "the end times," basing their judgment upon signs predicted by their ancient prophets.

Another tradition of Native Americans says that the birth of a White Buffalo calf will be the prevailing sign of the End Times. A white buffalo calf was born August 1994. The end of a buffalo's lifespan is usually in its late teens. If that buffalo lives until December 21, 2012, it will be 18. Interestingly, England has its own "white buffalo" when, out of the carnage of the Foot and Mouth scare, a tiny survivor was found - all white - and named Phoenix by his owners.  He was allowed to live.

Nostradamus claimed to foresee 2012 as the year of WW III, a different kind of war. Some who take the time to interpret his rather imprecise writing claim he predicted that terrorism will be the enemy, not armies or nations. "Plague, Famine, Death from Military Bands (Hands), The Century and The Age approaches its renewal." (C1 Q16) This, according to some, would be the End of Time. Others claim, as best they can determine from his writings, that the world will end in the year 3797. (We are neither experts concerning Nostradamus nor believers in his prophecies; this paragraph is offered only for information, based upon the interpretations of others.)

The Book of Revelation predicts 200,000,000 soldiers at Armageddon; this number is approximately 20% of all Muslims, or, according to the CIA, the number of military personnel now trained within China.

In a strange work, a Russian mathematician published an odd paper. Sergey Smelyakov, professor of mathematics at Kharkov University (Ukraine) said that by applying Phi (1.6180339) he found that by calculating the cycles of solar activity and planetary orbits in the Phi spiral, the system seems to spiral in on itself on December 21, 2012. He describes this as a kind of time implosion or "point of bifurcation," reminiscent of Peter Russell's "White Hole in Time."

And now Jewish scholars studying the Old Testament are saying that the ancient Jewish documents seem to suggest, basing their judgment upon the 6,000 years theory, that End of Days will occur "sometime" during the year 2012. The first interpretation was calculated at 2005 until they realized they had not taken into account the 7 years between Adam and Eve's creation and the picking of the apple from The Tree of Knowledge.

Additionally, the "Bible code" (as developed by mathematician Eliyahu Ripps, Professor of Mathematics, Hebrew University, Jerusalem, and encrypted only in the Torah), the first five books of the Bible, also termed the Pentateuch by the Greeks) the words "Earth annihilated" appear for the year 2012 (Hebrew year of 5772). A second passage reads, "It will be crumbled, driven out, I will tear it to pieces, 5772." A summary of "Judaism and 2012" may be found at  http://www.diagnosis2012.co.uk/new3.htm#rapt.

The Bible code matrix described above may be found in the popular books The Bible Code or The Bible Code II by Michael Drosnin, former NY Times and Wall Street journalist, available on www.amazon. com. Another example is shown to the left.

The Book of Revelation website explains on the pre-sign page that the recapturing of Jerusalem by the Israelis in the six-day war of 1967, is a key date encoded in the words of Jesus, that starts off a 45-year period ending in 2012. The Second Coming of Christ will occur during this 45-year period, and it was the prophet Daniel who revealed it.

The Ethiopian calendar's end of the 6th day of Creation is 5 years away from the Mayan end-point. This "Great Year of 2012" of the Precessional Cycle was long known to the ancient Sumerians, Babylonians, Egyptians and Greeks. Somehow down through the Ages that knowledge had been lost. Perhaps the greatest gift the Mayan culture has given our world is the Zero Point to the Precessional Cycle of 26,000 years. Through the 2012 date in their calendar, they have indicated the importance of the Galactic Equator and its relevance to the Precessional Cycle, thus giving us the ability to now pinpoint the exact time on our Galactic Clock. Photo of Mayan temple, by Webmaster

Astronomers note: Current data indicates that the date December 21st, 2012 A.D. (13.0.0.0.0 in the Mayan Long Count), represents an extremely close conjunction of the Winter Solstice Sun with the crossing point of the Galactic Equator (Equator of the Milky Way) and the Ecliptic (path of the Sun). The ancient Maya recognized such events as the Sacred Tree. This is an event that has been coming to resonance very slowly over thousands and thousands of years. This arrangement will come to precise resolution at exactly 11 a.m. GMT, December 21, 2012.
And as additional bit of astronomical information: What occurred on June 8th, 2004 is going to happen again near the 2012 completion of the Mayan calendar. The transit of Venus across the disk of the Sun in the year ahead is among the rarest of planetary alignments, most recently occurring in 1882. On June 8th, and again in 2012, the planet Venus will journey across the face of the Sun. This event has only occurred 6 times since the invention of the telescope. During this period this odd alignment occurs twice in eight years and has never happened before within that short period of time.
And this, from The Isaiah Effect by scientist and author Gregg Braden: (pp. 78-79, 1st edition) In 1992, astronomer Brian Marsden of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics announced the return of the Swift-Tuttle comet. The precise day of the comet's rediscovery was encrypted in the Bible Code, along with its predicted return 134 years later. The actual words "comet," "Swift-Tuttle," and the year of the comet's return, 2126, are clearly encoded in the text. Initially thought to be on a collision course with the earth at the time of its return, revised calculations now suggest that the comet will pass a safe distance away. Astronomers do, however, warn of a series of "near misses" leading up that time, the first occurring in 2006. Intersecting the 2006 dateline in the Hebrew text are the words, "Its path struck their dwelling," accompanied with the phrase in an associated line, "Year predicted for the world." The words "days of horror" cross this date with additional descriptions of "darkness," gloom," and "comet."

The Celtic Tradition: In Ireland, Christmas is celebrated on December 21, the same date in 2012 when the Mayans anticipated Earth to end. Search for the roots of today's Christmas traditions and you will find your way back to the ancient Celtic festival of Alban Arthuan, held during the Winter Solstice on December 21. Alban Arthuan is one of the ancient Druidic fire festivals. Taking place on December 21st through 22nd (due to the method the Druids used to measure one day), Alban Arthuan coincides with the Winter Solstice. Translated, it means "The Light of Arthur," in reference to the Arthurian legend that states King Arthur was born on the Winter Solstice.

TERMINAL SCIENCE: Scientists' views on how the world could end soon (exciting web page)
blast.jpg (28153 bytes)The Science Channel in January 2004 reported that the largest volcano disaster since mankind has lived on earth is overdue and may be expected to erupt at any time beginning now. It's location? Yellowstone National Park. That anticipated detonation is estimated to be one thousand times greater than that of Mount St. Helens and its power greater than all nuclear devices on earth. The Webmaster visited the devastation of Mount St. Helens (and Yellowstone as well) and finds such a concept to be beyond imagination. Whenever this occurs, the effect will be global, earth scientists say. Visit the Yellowstone Web page.

Among other catastrophes, the greatest portion of the world's crops - if not all agriculture that feed the citizens of planet Earth - and other plant life might be annihilated if Yellowstone erupted. The blast alone will account for the deaths of an incalculable number of human and animal life, but the after-effects will be worse for the survivors. Its effect may be compared to a comet colliding with earth. A lack of sunlight, shaded by a thick ash layer, will darken the earth. The last time that event is believed to have occurred, the dinosaur population endured a slow and horrific demise, analogous to the struggles predicted in the Book of Revelations during mankind's final days. (Did you know that when you last visited Yellowstone?)

Enter here:  "20 ways scientists say the world could end soon."

(Photo below is Tim LaHaye with the Webmaster. Dr. LaHaye's futuristic "Left Behind" novels are the largest selling books in history, aside from that of the Holy Bible.) The following was sent January 2004 to the  www.onealclan.com  website by Tim LaHaye's Left Behind website:

FIVE SIGNS OF THE END OF DAYS

(AS PROCLAIMED BY MANY BIBLICAL PROPONENTS)

1) Israel claims her land.

The return of the Jewish people to Israel is the "super-sign" of prophecy. The Bible predicts over and over again that the Jews must be back in their homeland in order for the events of the end times to unfold (see Jeremiah 30:1-3; Ezekiel 34:11-24; Zechariah 10:6-10).

In 2003 – a year of failed peace plans, rising Israeli-Palestinian tensions, and continued terrorist activity – Israel began construction of a 320-mile barrier. The structure, now 25-percent complete, is made up of a complex network of fences, trenches, walls, and security roads. Palestinians say the barrier is a land grab by Israel; Israel claims it is a necessary tool in its war against terrorism; prophecy experts view the barrier as a potential sign of things to come.

2) Saddam’s removal clears way for rebuilding Babylon.

The city of Babylon, located on the Euphrates River in modern Iraq, is mentioned almost 300 times in the Bible. It is consistently portrayed as a place of rebellion and pride. Scripture informs us that in the end times, Babylon will be rebuilt into a great city that will serve as a commercial and religious capital for the Antichrist.

The ousting of Saddam from power has resulted in a lifting of sanctions and limitations on Iraqi oil sales. As the “nation-building” continues, billions of dollars will begin to flood into Iraq, making the rebuilding of Babylon as a major economic center for the Middle East (and the rest of the world) a real possibility.

3) A power struggle emerges in Europe.

This summer, a draft constitution for Europe amazingly included a reference in its preamble to a "reunited Europe.” This constitution could very well be the glue for the reunited Roman Empire predicted in the Bible during the end times.

According to the prophet Daniel, the second phase of the Roman Empire will take the form of a coalition of 10 nations. The EU, in its current form, has 15 members.

Recently, the summit on a proposed constitution for a united Europe collapsed after leaders failed to reach an agreement on the sharing of power. The fight revealed an unusual level of public animosity among the EU nations. Warning that an expanded EU could force Europe to "march to the slowest step," French Prime Minister Jacques Chirac suggested a "pioneer group" of nations should move forward alone. Perhaps this new coalition will develop in the shape of a 10-kingdom form as revealed by Daniel.

4) Religious leaders debate authority of Scripture.

The Bible uses the word apostasy to describe opposition from within. It refers to people who profess to believe – who call themselves believers – but who believe and teach false doctrine and practice ungodly behavior. There are a handful of New Testament passages that tell us that apostasy will be a defining characteristic of the last days.

At the 2003 annual convention for the Episcopal Church, the issue of the authority of Scripture was so divisive that leaders of the worldwide Anglican Communion were forced to call an emergency session of religious leadership in London in order to prevent the splintering of the church. As debate heightened, an opposition movement in the Southern Hemisphere, where beliefs are more orthodox and growth is strong, grew more powerful.

5) Democracy falters in Russia.

Twenty-five hundred years ago, the Hebrew prophet Ezekiel was given a detailed prophecy foretelling that Russia would become a dominant player on the world scene in the last days (Ezekiel 38-39). However, following the breakup of the Soviet Union, it became increasingly difficult to believe that Russia was going to be the major power that Ezekiel described. (Webmaster's note to doubters: "Russia" in Ezekiel 38-39 is herein interpreted from the words, "the north." This is in dispute in that some scholars say that "the north" is too ambiguous to be determined with certainty to be Russia. Many scholars, however, agree with Dr. LaHaye.)

Then, in a recent parliamentary election that Europe's leading democracy watchdog group called "overwhelmingly distorted," Vladimir Putin’s party won a landslide victory. Manipulating state media to boost his campaign, Putin’s victory is widely considered unfair. Critics fear the death of democracy after Russia’s liberal parties were all but wiped out. Putin's supporters claim the pro-Kremlin majority will hand the ex-KGB spy more powers to fight corruption. Prophecy experts view the development as just one more reason for believing Christ could come in our time.

Luke 21:28 "But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near."

Luke 21:32 "Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all things take place."
